Through body, not to be confused with color body, means that the color and pattern are "baked" right through the tile flooring's entire bisque. This is opposed to color-body, where the color and design are applied only to the glaze.

Through body vs. color body

Both are terrific additions to the home, so it comes down to personal preference. Through-body color, tiles can be glazed or unglazed; these always have a beautiful surface where the top surface and the bisque are consistent in color and patterns. Also, chips, scratches, and other damage aren't as noticeable as there are no white spots.

Body-color is somewhat similar, but the tiles are always glazed with the design sitting on the top; that surface can be slightly different than the bisque, and the tile will show white spots when it's damaged.

Whether through body color or color body, all tiles are highly designed and decorative and can look like metal, wood, stone, concrete, fabric, leather, etc.

Porcelain tile: through body, hard-wearing and beautiful

Porcelain is a type of ceramic that is the most well-known through body color tile. It comes in an almost unlimited number of colors and designs, and this large-format tile is often the preferred choice for wood-and-stone looks. It can also be used on walls, and tub/shower surrounds and is ideal as a tile flooring for busy, heavily trafficked areas like kitchens, baths, and hallways; it is waterproof whether or not it's glazed. It's also suitable for use on patio and deck floors and poolside, able to withstand the most severe weather conditions.
