Does luxury vinyl flooring last a long time?

With proper installation and regular care, luxury vinyl flooring can last up to 25 years. This is a low-maintenance product, but it will need some routine maintenance.

Here?s how to keep it looking great and performing well for a long time.

First, the basics

Sweep with a soft broom or dry mop several times a week. Even every day if possible.

Dirt and soil can be sharp, and it can cause scratches. You also don't want it to embed and pit the floor, which becomes tough to scrub. This goes for both vinyl plank flooring (LVP) and tile (LVT)

Mop periodically with a well-rung microfiber cloth and a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners or anything abrasive since it can scratch.

And don?t use ammonia or ammonia-based cleaning products on luxury vinyl flooring; these break down the material and crack the flooring.

Adding more shine

As always, prevention is better than cure. That means following manufacturer instructions carefully.

Some products will damage the finish on luxury plank flooring or LVT flooring. The finish is there to add extra shine and strength.

It's always best to discuss this with a flooring expert. However, you can add a drop of baby oil to one gallon of water and a cup of apple cider vinegar.

Everyday routines

Use protective pads on furniture legs, especially when moving. Also, place mats strategically in high-traffic areas.
